In the early 2000's, a tiny beetle known as the emerald ash borer was found living in Michigan. Seven years later, this same exotic insect killed nearly 60 million ash trees in 13 states. At that point, we believed that the emerald ash borer was essentially a death sentence for your trees but since then, we have learned that it is not.
In North America, the borer has been found only on ash species. Eradication is no longer feasible for the emerald ash borer. Ash tree species likely will survive emerald ash borer beetles, but just barely. Those trees do not survive by accident. But treatment over a long period is not sustainable.
